About APSN Centre for Adults

APSN Centre for Adults (CFA), is a sheltered workshop that serves as an alternative for post-secondary special education and caters to individuals with special needs (Mild Intellectual Disabilities, IQ range 50-70), aged 18 and above. The vocational training centre provides sheltered enterprise training and job placement opportunities. Our trainees are empowered through best practices in vocational training, realistic on-the-job training and support services until they are ready for the workforce.

Target Audience

International and local delegates from academic, clinical, policy, and community practice backgrounds seeking to learn about innovative person-centric practices in the lifelong development of adults with intellectual disabilities.

Synopsis

This learning journey will showcase APSN Centre for Adults' vocational training and sheltered workshop programmes designed for adults with mild intellectual disabilities. Through a person-centric lens, visitors will learn how we support trainees in achieving independence, employment readiness, and community inclusion. Delegates will tour key areas of our operations, observe real-time training in action, and engage in discussions with our interdisciplinary team. We will share our shift from Sheltered workshop to "training for active contribution and toward employment".

Site: APSN Delta Senior School

About APSN Delta Senior School

APSN Delta Senior School (APSN DSS) is a post-secondary vocational institution in Singapore that provides training for young adults aged 17 to 21 with mild intellectual disabilities. The school offers Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) vocational training programs to prepare students for open employment. Students receive training in academic, vocational, and social skills, including digital literacy, with a focus on developing work habits and character traits to foster their transition into the workforce.

Target Audience

For individuals who are interested to learn and understand how a vocational special needs school supports individuals with mild intellectual disability to be ready for employment and/or alternative transition pathways.

Synopsis

APSN Delta Senior School is a vocational special needs school catered for students from 18-21 years old with Mild Intellectual Disability. There are two programmes offered to students (Work Skills Qualification which is a certification track and LEAD Programme which is a non-certification track). The learning journey will provide you with insights on how we equip students with the knowledge and skills to be ready for employment. The learning journey includes a school tour to visit the vocational classrooms.

About Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS)

Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) is a social service agency established in 1957. CPAS provides persons with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities with early intervention, special education, rehabilitation services, day activity centre programmes as well as vocational training and gainful employment in Singapore.

Through active advocacy and the support of equal opportunities for all persons with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, CPAS hopes to empower these individuals by helping them realise their full potential and lead fulfilled, dignified lives. Driven by our core values of hope, empowerment, aspiration, respect and trust, the organisation is focused on delivering fully integrated programmes and services at the highest standards. At present, we look after over 800 clients ranging in age from a few months to 55 years old.

Synopsis

The visit includes a tour of CPAS facilities such as the sensory and soft play rooms, indoor gross motor rooms and classrooms, that are designed to support children with diverse developmental needs, offering insight into our inclusive and therapeutic learning environment.

Participants will also be introduced to our Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC), through a presentation that highlights our curriculum framework, Transdisciplinary approach, and family-centred practices (ECHO). This immersive experience aims to deepen understanding of early intervention strategies and foster meaningful exchanges around best practices in supporting young children with special needs.

Registered as a charity in 1992, Rainbow Centre is an Institution of a Public Character, and a registered society, with the Constitution of Rainbow Centre as its governing instrument.

About SUN-DAC

SUN-DAC is a non-profit social service agency in Singapore that provides care and services to persons with intellectual, physical, mental, sensory, and learning disabilities, primarily aged 18 and above. Established in 1990, it was the first Day Activity Centre (DAC) in the community, pioneering care for intellectually disabled individuals in a HDB void deck. Today, SUN-DAC operates three centers, offering programs for clients to develop skills in self-care, communication, and daily living, fostering independence and a sense of belonging within an inclusive community.

At SUN-DAC, adults with disabilities embark on personalized learning journeys focused on unlocking potential. Beginning with collaborative goal-setting with their caregivers, clients engage in life skills training, creative arts and community activities tailored to their abilities. With continuous support and constantly adaptive strategies, individuals build confidence, independence and meaningful connections. Progress is celebrated at every step, culminating in enhanced self-reliance and active community inclusion.

About MINDS Fernvale Gardens School

MINDS Fernvale Gardens School (FGS) is a special education school in Singapore for students aged 7 to 18 with intellectual disabilities, including those with autism. It offers a learner-centered curriculum focused on developing independence, fostering vocational skills through programs like School-2-Work, and using a Positive Behaviour Support framework to create individual learning profiles for each student.

Synopsis

Discover how Fernvale Gardens School (FGS) creates rich, authentic learning  experiences based on students' interests through its curriculum and innovative Learning Spaces Design Framework. This approach aims to design an environment where students live, play, engage, and create, integrating the design of learning spaces with the school's curriculum to develop life-long learners.

Participants will explore four key learning spaces:

INFINITE: A flexible space fostering collaboration and problem-solving through design thinking, where students build prototypes and practise vocational skills like serving as baristas or customers in a café.

HOME@Fernvale: A simulated home-like setting where students hone daily living and leisure skills in an authentic setting.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Classrooms: Thoughtfully designed spaces catering to students' sensory and conceptual needs, promoting independence, and supporting transition.

Science Studio: A hub for interest-based learning where students learn video production and editing.

Participants will learn how to design learning environments to support the aspirations of students.

Synopsis

The Learning Journey’s aim to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Singapore’s ecosystem of support for persons with disabilities. , The delegation will gain first-hand insights into SG Enable’s role as the focal agency dedicated to enabling persons with disabilities and driving inclusion in society.

At the Enabling Village, participants will experience an inclusive community space that brings together training, employment, lifestyle, and community services within a universally accessible environment. The Village serves as a living model of how infrastructure, services, and partnerships can be integrated to foster empowerment and participation.
